Mental Wellness and Running: Finding Your Own Pace by Jessica Domingos, cofounder & executive director of The Evie Effect

Mental wellness isn’t a one-size-fits-all journey. At The Evie Effect, we understand that taking care of your mental well-being can feel overwhelming, especially after experiencing a life-altering event. For me, losing Evie changed everything. But through that unimaginable grief, I found a new purpose. I’ve learned that it’s not about running through life’s challenges at full speed—it’s about finding your own pace, giving yourself grace, and knowing that even after trauma, you can still be standing.

While I’m unable to physically run, I’ve come to see that moving forward—whether by walking, jogging, or simply showing up—is what truly matters. This is a powerful reflection of my own grief journey, and the same holds true in leading The Evie Effect. It’s not always about how fast you go, but about continuing to take steps forward. Every pace, no matter how slow, is a step toward healing, and every moment spent on your own wellness is a victory.

That’s why we created the Light the Way 5K, in partnership with TrueVine Brewing Company. This event is about so much more than physical fitness; it’s about mental wellness, community, and hope. Whether you run or walk, it’s a chance to honor those we’ve lost, celebrate our own resilience, and show up for each other. Together, we are breaking the stigma surrounding mental wellness and shining a light on the importance of open, honest conversations.

On April 12, 2025, we invite you to join us for the Light the Way 5K: Walk on Rock On for Mental Wellness. No matter your pace—whether you’re running, walking, or volunteering—every step counts. We are honored to partner with TrueVine Brewing Company to bring this event to life and strengthen our community connections. Together, we’re showing that mental wellness is something we all have a role in supporting.

At The Evie Effect, our vision is a community where mental wellness is prioritized, and suicide prevention is a shared responsibility. You can be part of this vision by joining us for the 5K in whatever way fits for you—whether it’s running or walking, volunteering, collaborating to provide resources, or becoming a sponsor.

Together, we are stronger!
